STANFORD, Calif. - The Cardinal moved to 16-4 on the season tonight, behind the team's 10th and 11th-consecutive wins. Stanford rallied to defeat Nevada 7-4 in the early game, before a dominant night from NiJaree Canady propelled the team to a 5-0 win over LMU in the late game.
The Card opened up the afternoon against Nevada, rallying with a six-run fourth inning to win after trailing 4-1. Freshman Ava Gall led the way, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Gall came up big for Stanford, crushing a three-run homer to cap the rally and put the Card up for good.
The long ball was her fourth homer in the last four games, keeping her locked in a tie with senior Aly Kaneshiro for the team lead.
Senior Regan Krause earned the win, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing just two earned runs on seven hits. Sophomore NiJaree Canady closed the game, recording the final two outs for her second save of the season.
Freshman Jade Berry opened the scoring against LMU in the second inning, lining a double to right to drive in sophomore Emily Jones and make it a 1-0 Cardinal lead. Berry would double the lead two innings later, with another RBI double to make it 2-0. Berry would go on to score on a wild pitch and make it a 3-0 lead.
Stanford added another run in the fifth, on an RBI single from Jones.
Canady was dominant in the circle, recording a fifth-straight start with 10 or more strikeouts. Canady finished with 13 punchouts, allowing just one hit and 5.2 innings pitched. Junior Kylie Chung closed out the game, tossing a hitless 1.1 innings.
Stanford is on the road tomorrow, taking on the San Jose State Spartans. The Cardinal will be back at Smith Family Stadium on Sunday for a rematch with LMU. First pitch is set for 12:30 p.m. PT.
