SAN JOSE - The Cardinal offense went off to win 10-2 today at San Jose State, extending the team's winning streak to 12-straight games and moving to 17-4 on the season. The Cardinal's 14 hits were the second-most in a single game this season, trailing only the team's 15 against Georgia Tech in February.
Stanford jumped out early, with sophomore Taryn Kern tripling to lead off the game. Sophomore River Mahler followed it up with an RBI double to put the Card up 1-0. The double extended Mahler's hitting streak to six games.
Senior Caelan Koch followed it up with a two-run double, making it a 3-0 lead for the Cardinal. Freshman Jade Berry added another two run double two batters later, making it a 5-0 game. The two-bagger gave Berry four RBI in the last two games, and nine in the last eight.
Berry's 14 RBI on the season have her second on the team, behind senior Aly Kaneshiro's 17.
Two more runs would come around to score on an error, giving freshman pitcher Alyssa Houston a 7-0 lead as she stepped into the circle for the first time.
The Spartans pulled runs back in the third and fourth to make it 7-2.
In the top of the sixth Kern smacked another extra base hit to make it 8-2, scoring Kaitlyn Lim with an RBI double.
Houston exited the game in the sixth, after allowing just two earned runs in five innings of work with four strikeouts. The win moves her to 3-0 on the season.
Lim added two more in the seventh, doubling to make it 10-2.
Junior Kylie Chung relieved Houston in the sixth, throwing two scoreless frames to wrap up the win. The shutdown innings extend Chung's scoreless inning streak to 4.1 innings over three appearances.
Stanford returns home tomorrow for a 12:30 p.m. PT first pitch against LMU.
