SEATTLE – No. 2 Stanford split its first day of action at the Pac-12 North Beach Invitational Friday, falling to No. 3 USC 4-1 while besting No. 13 Washington by the same score.
The Cardinal suffered its first loss in 10 matches against the Women of Troy, but after a win over the Huskies, sit at 19-3 on the season.
Stanford's lone point of the day against USC came on court three, as sophomore Kelly Belardi and freshman Chloe Hoffman captured a 21-18, 21-19 win over Audrey and Nicole Nourse on court three. The duo went 2-0 on the day, also topping UW's threes pair 21-16, 19-21, 15-8.
The Cardinal's match against the host of the Pac-12 North saw wins on courts one, three, four, and five. After UW took the first point of the day on court two, Stanford stormed back and took the rest of the match's points, led by a three-set victory on court four by senior Kate Reilly and freshman Clara Stowell. Senior Maya Harvey and sophomore Ashley Vincent followed suit with a 22-20, 18-21, 15-12 win on court five, while senior Xolani Hodel and freshman Brooke Rockwell topped UW's Piper Monk-Heidrich and Magdalena Rabitsch 21-16, 15-21, 15-10 on court one. Hoffman and Belardi finished off the victory with their win on court three.
