Convincing Win

STANFORD, Calif. - No. 5 Stanford bounced back from an uncharacteristic home loss in a big way, sweeping No. 3 Pepperdine to wrap up the nonconference portion of its schedule.

The victory snapped the Waves' three match winning-streak in the series and was Stanford's first win since the NCAA quarterfinals on May 17, 2019 (4-1). The Cardinal was coming off of a 4-3 defeat to No. 17 UCLA on Easter Sunday, which snapped Stanford's 21-match winning streak against Pac-12 opponents in all competitions. The Cardinal has now won 109 of its last 116 matches at Taube Family Tennis Stadium.

Stanford went in front when it secured the doubles point following a 7-5 win on Court 2 for Angelica Blake and India Houghton beat Nikki Redelijk and Vivian Yang, 7-5.

Ranked singles matches littered the lineup, and No. 33 Alexandra Yepifanova secured Stanford's second point with a 6-3, 6-3 win over No. 8 Savannah Broadus on Court 2. Yepifanova has now won four in a row, all against ranked opponents, and is 8-3 against ranked foes this season.

Freshman Eleana Yu entered the lineup on Court 6 after Alexis Blokhina was a late scratch on four and moved to 11-2 on the season with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Vivian Yang.

Connie Ma, ranked ninth in the country, faced off with No. 52 Janice Tjen on Court 3 and delivered her fourth clincher of the season. Down 5-3 in the second, the junior took four games in a row to beat Tjen, 6-2, 7-5. Ma is 14-2 in duals this season and 16-4 against nationally-ranked opponents this season.

Stanford closes out its home slate against No. 59 Oregon on Sunday at 11 a.m. Seniors Ana Geller and India Houghton will be honored in a post-match ceremony.
