Time to Own It

  • For the second time in three seasons, No. 19 Stanford competes in the NCAA Regional Finals meet Sunday evening, taking on No. 3 California, No. 6 Denver, and No. 22 Arizona State for one of two spots at the 2024 NCAA Championships.
  • The Cardinal enters with the third-best NQS of the evening session and will begin the meet on vault, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Start order of the meet was randomly assigned, with the team with the highest NQS starting on beam, second-highest starting on bars, third-highest starting on vault and fourth-highest starting on floor. The meet will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Bart Conner and Kathy Johnson Clarke on the call. The broadcast will include a two boxes on screen side-by-side to show every gymnast and routine throughout the entire competition.
  • Led by the best team score at NCAA Regionals meet in program history, No. 19 Stanford topped No. 14 Auburn and Southern Utah in the NCAA Regional Second Round Meet Friday evening in Haas Pavilion, earning a spot in the NCAA Regional Finals Sunday.
  • Fifth-year Chloe Widner led all competitors in both the afternoon and evening sessions with a new career-best all-around total of 39.700, earning the regional all-around title. She is the first all-around regional champion for the Cardinal since Elizabeth Price won the all-around title at the 2016 Ann Arbor Regional. Widner earned shares of the bars, beam and floor titles, scoring a 9.950 on each event, leaving as a co-regional champion on all three events. Sophomore Anna Roberts also captured a share of the regional floor title with a 9.950 performance and junior Anapaula Gutierrez earned a part of the regional vault title with a 9.900.
  • All of the Cardinal's event team scores Friday evening sit as one of the program's top-three team totals of the season. Stanford led off with its third-best beam total of the year, followed with its tied-for-third best floor rotation of the year, second-best vault total of the year and ended with its tied-for-second best bars rotation of the season. The Cardinal did not count a score towards its team total below a 9.800 throughout the evening.
  • Peaking at the right time to upset ranked foes has been the name of the game for the Cardinal. In its last two seasons in which its reached the regional finals, it has done so by upsetting the ranked team in its regional second round session-- in 2022, upsetting Oregon State, this year, upsetting No. 14 Auburn.
  • Lately, the Cardinal has outperforming its team NQS rankings. In its last two meets, Stanford has scored at least .200 over its team total NQS, while also topping its event NQS scores on six of eight competed events.
