Two Hit Gem from Canady

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 9 Cardinal cruised to a 4-0 win against Arizona State tonight, to move to 29-6 on the season, and 9-1 in Pac-12 play. Sophomore pitcher NiJaree Canady was dominant in the win, striking out 10 in a two-hit shutout.

Stanford opened the scoring in a big way, with freshman Ava Gall crushing a two-run homer to centerfield in the bottom of the first. The homer was Gall's seventh of the season, adding to her team-leading total.

The Card extended the lead in the bottom of the fourth, with sophomore Emily Jones slapping a single up the middle to score grad student Kaitlyn Lim. The run made it a 3-0 Stanford lead.

Senior Caelan Koch added another in the fifth, singling to score freshman Kiley Buckley and make it a 4-0 final score.

From the fifth to seventh innings, Canady struck out five-straight batters before allowing just the second hit of the game with one out in the seventh. The game ended with Canady snagging a line drive and doubling up the runner at first.

The Card and Sun Devils are back tomorrow with Pups at the Park day. Fans are encouraged to bring their dog to the ballpark, and receive a free collapsible dog bowl. First pitch is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. PT, with tickets available at tickets.GoStanford.com. The game will also be streamed on Pac-12 Networks.
