Cardinal Aces Eagles

IRVINE, Calif. – Outside hitter Kevin Lamp tied the school single-match record for aces, leading No. 7 Stanford to a 23-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-23 win at Concordia on Saturday.

Stanford (11-11, 4-6 MPSF) hit .380 for the match – its third-highest output of the season. The Cardinal finished with a season-high 13 aces - six by Lamp and five by opposite Theo Snoey. Concordia (6-16, 0-10 MPSF) was held to a .269 clip.

Lamp's career-high six aces were the most in a single match by a Cardinal player since 2014, tying for the school record in the rally-scoring era (2001-pres.) with Steven Irvin (Feb. 25, 2013 at Cal Baptist; Feb. 12, 2014 at Pacific) and James Shaw (March 27, 2014 vs. USC).

Outside hitter Will Rottman led the team for a second straight night, totaling 12 kills on .303 hitting, four digs, two assists and two blocks. Snoey added 11 kills on a .400 attack percentage, five digs and a block to go with the five aces.

Setter Nathan Lietzke dished out 36 assists and three kills, six digs, and ace and five blocks, including two solo. Libero Luke Turner finished with four digs and two assists, and was credited with a kill.

Five of Lamp's six aces came in the third set alone. The fifth-year went on a run at the service line, helping the Cardinal score seven consecutive points to take a 16-5 lead.

Fifth-year Adam Chang started his third match of the season at middle blocker, registering a career-high eight kills on .357 hitting, four blocks, two digs and an ace. Middle blocker Nathaniel Gates chipped in with four kills on a .600 attack percentage, two digs and a block.

Lamp went on another run at the service line late in the fourth set, serving six straight to help Stanford seal the win. In addition to the aces, he tallied six kills, six digs and two blocks.

Concordia was led by opposite Christian Galoppo's match-high 17 kills on .353 hitting, while Gage Doble added nine kills, 11 digs and three aces.

Stanford closes out the regular season next week at home, hosting No. 13 USC on Friday and Saturday in Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal will recognize its nine seniors during a postmatch ceremony on Saturday.
