Nine-Run Second Inning Clinches Series Victory

STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 9 Cardinal drew 10 walks and slugged four extra-base hits to beat Arizona State 14-0 in five innings today. Senior Regan Krause and freshman Alyssa Houston held the Sun Devils to just one hit in the shutout. Krause had completed three perfect innings before exiting.

Senior Caelan Koch drove in a run for the second-straight game, singling to bring sophomore Taryn Kern home in the bottom of the first. A bases loaded walk from freshman Jade Berry made it 2-0 after the first inning.

The Card exploded for nine runs in the bottom of the second. Runs scoring on a passed ball and two bases-loaded walks, as well as another Koch RBI, before a flurry of doubles broke the game open. Sophomore River Mahler, grad student Kaitlyn Lim and sophomore Taryn Kern hit three-consecutive doubles to drive in five runs and make it an 11-0 Cardinal lead heading into the top of the third.

In the third, Stanford added three more to cap the explosive performance. Junior Camryn Carmouche picked up her first hit of the season, entering as a pinch hitter and doubling to score two runs. Lim would later score on an error to make it 14-0.

Krause and Houston controlled the Arizona State bats, who entered the series averaging 5.58 runs a game. Krause, Houston and sophomore NiJaree Canady have combined to allow just three hits in back-to-back shutouts.

The win moves the Card to 30-6 on the year, including 10-1 in Pac-12 play. Stanford has now won 30 or more games in four-straight seasons, and remains atop the conference standings with four series victories.
