Four Named to AVCA Collegiate Beach All-America Teams

LEXINGTON, Ky. – For the first time in program history, four members of the Stanford beach volleyball program were named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America Teams, as announced by the organization on Wednesday.

Stanford's ones pair of freshman Brooke Rockwell and senior Xolani Hodel were each named to the All-America First Team while the Cardinal's two's pair of junior Taylor Wilson and freshman Ruby Sorra each earned second-team honors. Hodel becomes a four-time all-American with this year's honor, selected to the first team last year and the second team in 2021 and 2022, while Rockwell, Sorra, and Wilson each earn their first all-American recognition. Rockwell is the lone freshman on this year's first team and her and Sorra make up half of all freshman selected as All-Americans in 2024.

Hodel and Rockwell hold a 24-10 record as a duo this season, spending the entirety of the year on court one. The pair clinched Stanford's second win over a No. 1 team in March, topping UCLA's Lexy Denaburg and Maggie Boyd 21-17, 21-16 to secure the Cardinal's win over the Bruins and own wins over pairs from California, Florida State, and LSU throughout the season.

WIlson and Sorra have combined for a 22-6 record throughout the season on court two, including victories over pairs from ranked teams such as USC, UCLA, LMU, TCU, California, and LSU. The duo spent two matches on court one, sporting a flawless record as Stanford's top pair and enter the NCAA Championship on an eight-match win streak.

The Cardinal enters the 2024 NCAA Championship with its highest seed ever and as the second-highest seeded at-large team behind only No. 2 UCLA (Pac-12 runner-up). No. 3-ranked and seeded Stanford takes on No. 14-ranked and seeded Georgia State in the first round of the tournameny Friday, May 3 at 1 p.m. PT (3 p.m. CT) in Gulf Shores, Ala. The dual will be broadcast live on ESPNU.
