Season Ends in Supers

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – The season for No. 19 Stanford men's tennis came to a close in the NCAA Super Regionals, as the team fell on the road at No. 6 Wake Forest, 4-1.

Wake Forest claimed the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The tandem of Samir Banerjee and Nishesh Basavareddy opened doubles play with a 6-1 win on court two, but the Demon Deacons outlasted the Cardinal to take the early advantage.

A tightly-contested singles battle, Basavareddy continued his winning streak with a top-25 win on court one, 7-5, 6-3, but the Demon Deacons picked up wins on courts five and two to take a 3-1 advantage. Needing to push to three sets on the three remaining courts, Wake Forest picked up a win on court four to close the night.

The Cardinal ends the year at 19-7 overall, and reached the round of 16 for the third straight season on the road. Basavareddy and Banerjee will compete in the NCAA singles championship in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
