STILLWATER, Okla. - Stanford's season came to an end in the NCAA quarterfinals on Friday afternoon in Stillwater with a 4-1 loss to seventh-seeded Georgia. With the result, the Cardinal finishes with a 25-3 overall record.
Stanford was searching for it in doubles, with the Bulldogs securing an early victory over No. 10 Connie Ma and Alexandra Yepifanova on Court 1, 6-1. Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina were leading on Court 2, but Anastasiia Lopata and Mell Reasco beat Katherine Hui and Valencia Xu on Court 3 to give Georgia the early lead.
Stanford was down early in singles and seemed to turned the tide for a bit, winning four first sets, but was unable to fully take advantage. No. 7 Connie Ma was down 3-0 in the first set and would only lose two games the rest of the way, a 6-4, 6-1 winner on Court 2 over No. 41 Alexandra Vecic. On Court 1, No. 25 Angelica Blake was down 4-0 in the second set and battled back to 4-4 with a couple of breaks, before falling to No. 16 Dasha Vidmanova 6-2, 7-5 to snap a nine-match winning streak.
Valencia Xu rolled to a 6-0 first-set win on Court 6 and was headed to a third set after losing a second-set tiebreaker to No. 87 Mai Nirundorn when her match was abanoned. On Court 3, No. 29 Alexandra Yepifanova was in the midst of a second-set tiebreaker and looking to close out No. 65 Mell Reasco when Georgia won it with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 on Court 4, a No. 70 Anastasiia Lopata victory over Alexis Blokhina.
Guillermina Grant beat Katherine Hui on Court 5 6-1, 6-4.
