Cardinal Heads to Cle Elum

  • ·      Top-seeded Stanford women’s golf is off to the Cle Elum Regional, hosted by the University of Washington. The practice round takes place on Sunday, May 5 and the three rounds run May 6-8.
  • ·      The Cle Elum Regional takes place at Tumble Creek Club and plays at 6,306 yards and is a par-72.
  • ·      Last year’s NCAA Regional was an historic one for the Cardinal, as the team shot 50-under par as a team to break the NCAA Regional scoring record. Rose Zhang was crowned the individual champion en route to winning her second consecutive NCAA individual national championship.
  • ·      The Cardinal claimed its third-ever Pac-12 title, and the last one the conference will hand out, on April 23 at Palouse Ridge in Pullman. In doing so, Stanford shattered the Pac-12 scoring record by shooting 28-under par as a team through three rounds (836).
  • ·      Kelly Xu was the team’s highest individual placer, finishing second overall with a 10-under 206 (72-69-65). Her 65 in the third round is her best collegiate round, and her 206 ties her lowest 54-hole total as a Cardinal.
  • ·      All five Stanford golfers at the Pac-12 Championship finished inside the top-11, with Xu and Megha Ganne placing inside the top-five.
  • ·      Four Stanford golfers were selected as All-Pac-12: Sadie Englemann, Megha Ganne, Paula Martin Sampedro, and Kelly Xu.
  • ·      The other teams in the Cle Elum Regional are: Duke, Arizona State, Virginia, San Jose State, Washington, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Long Beach State, Sacramento State, and Seattle.
  • ·      Five teams from the Cle Elum Regional will advance to the NCAA Championship in Carlsbad, in addition to the low individual not on an advancing team.
  • ·      2024 is the second consecutive season that Stanford enters the NCAA Regionals as the top overall seed.
  • ·      Stanford has made every NCAA Regional field dating back to 1993. The Cardinal have advanced to the NCAA Championship every year since 2010 and is the only program in the country to advance to the match play portion since it was instituted eight years ago.
