STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 6 Cardinal rallied from down 3-0 to top No. 25 Oregon 7-3 at home tonight, moving to 41-11 on the season and 16-6 in Pac-12 play. Senior Regan Krause picked up the win, allowing just four hits in five scoreless innings of relief.
Oregon's three runs came in the second inning, but the Ducks would not be able to add any more.
The Cardinal answered right back, plating three in the bottom half of the second to even the game at three. Sophomore River Mahler doubled to left, scoring two. Then in the next at bat, graduate student Kaitlyn Lim singled to score Mahler and level the score.
In the bottom of the third, Stanford kept swinging. Senior Aly Kaneshiro and freshman Jade Berry each went yard to make it a 5-3 lead. Berry would finish the night 2-for-3 with a pair of runs scored.
Kaneshiro's home run was her 10th of the season and 25th of her career, moving her into sole possession of the 10th-most career homers in program history.
The next inning, sophomore Taryn Kern crushed a two-run home run to extend the lead to 7-3.
The three homers give Stanford 49 on the season, the third-most in a single season in program history and most since 53 were hit in 2008.
Krause entered in relief for the final five frames after freshman Alyssa Houston earned the start. The product of Pontiac, Ill. picked up her 19th win of the season at 19-4, striking out two and only walking one.
The Cardinal's 16 Pac-12 wins are the second-most in a single season, just one shy of the record 17 wins in 1998.
Stanford and the Ducks will be back tomorrow for game two of the three-game series, starting at 4:00 p.m. PT from Smith Family Stadium. Tickets are still available at tickets.gostanford.com, and the game will be streamed on Pac-12 Networks.
