Polonsky to Paris

Stanford's Ron Polonsky set a national record in the 200 individual medley.

STANFORD'S Ron Polonsky secured a berth in Paris by achieving an Olympic Qualifying Time on Saturday at the European Swimming Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. 

Polonsky recorded an Israeli record 1:57.01 in the 200-meter individual medley during the semifinals, surpassing the OQT of 1:57.94. On Sunday, Polonsky placed second in the final in 1:57.36.

Polonsky broke his own national record of 1:57.99, set at the 2022 World Championships.

This will be Polonsky’s second Olympic Games, having competed in Tokyo in 2021.

The week also featured the U.S. Swimming Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and the U.S. Diving Trials in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Of the 15 current and former Stanford athletes competing in the U.S. meets, Jack Ryan finished highest, teaming with Grayson Campbell to place third in the men’s synchronized 3-meter diving. Individually, Ryan was seventh in the 3-meter springboard and incoming freshman Misha Andriyuk was seventh in the men’s platform.

Alum Daniel Roy was fifth in the 200 breaststroke, in 2:09.44. Among current Cardinal, Josh Zuchowski and Henry McFadden each advanced to semifinals. Zuchowski was 12th overall in the 200 backstroke and McFadden was 14th overall in the 100 freestyle.
