STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford head coach Roz Ellis welcomed a new addition to the coaching staff ahead of the 2024 season, as the program announced the hiring of Maddie Kahn as Assistant Goalkeeping Specialist.
Couldn't be more excited about Maddie joining our coaching staff", Ellis said. "She brings a wealth of technical and tactical knowledge as one of the best goalkeepers in the country. Anyone who watched the national championship last year saw how much of a difference-maker she was, and she values culture and the mindset that goes into being a champion."
A standout athlete during her five years of competition, Kahn arrives on The Farm after stints with North Carolina and Lehigh. Kahn brings championship-level experience to Stanford, leading North Carolina to the national championship last season as the starting netminder for the Tar Heels.
Most notably, Kahn earned Most Outstanding Player honors following her performance in the NCAA Championship against Northwestern, turning away a critical 2-on-1 attack late in the second overtime period before denying Northwestern four times during shootouts to secure the win.
Prior to her time in Chapel Hill, Kahn was a four-year starter at Lehigh where she started between the pipes in each of her 61 games with the Mountain Hawks. The Ocean City, N.J. native lead Lehigh to the 2022 Patriot League Championship and collected numerous accolades, including multiple All-Patriot League honors and a 2021 Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Year selection.
Additionally, Kahn's talent and dedication were recognized on the national stage as she was a multiple-time age-level United States national team member on the U17, U19, and U21 teams. At the U21 level, Kahn was part of the U.S. team that played in the Junior World Cup in South Africa and the 4-Nations Tournament in Ireland.
Upon joining Stanford Field Hockey, Kahn expressed her enthusiasm for the opportunity, stating, "I am very honored and eager to be joining Stanford and am extremely grateful to the team, coaching staff, and Stanford Athletics for trusting me with this incredible opportunity. It is a privilege to be able to start my coaching career learning from this coaching staff and I am looking forward to sharing my goalkeeping knowledge, passion for the game, and competitiveness with the program."
In her new role, Kahn will work closely with Stanford's goalkeepers, providing individualized coaching and support to help them reach their full potential.
A first-of-its-kind position on the Stanford field hockey staff, coach Ellis shared her excitement about the impact of this new role on the program. "The addition of a goalkeeper specialist will be vital to our program moving forward," coach Ellis stated. "I'm very excited for Maddie to start her coaching career at Stanford. This is one of the greatest jobs in the world and I'm lucky to be her mentor at the beginning of her journey."
Stanford begins the 2024 season on August 30 against Ohio, with the home opener taking place on September 5 where it plays host to Kent State.
