Cardinal Adds Danielle O’Toole-Trejo to Staff

Former Olympian, Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year Spent 2024 at California

STANFORD, Calif. – Danielle O’Toole-Trejo has joined the Cardinal as an assistant coach, the Paul A. Violich Director of Softball Jessica Allister announced on Monday.

“I’d like to thank coach Allister for the opportunity,” said O’Toole-Trejo. “She has done some great things for this program and I am excited to join the Cardinal family. I am looking forward to working with and developing the pitching staff. Go Card!"

O’Toole-Trejo spent last season across the bay as the California Golden Bears pitching coach. At California, O’Toole-Trejo guided the Bears staff to a combined 3.06 ERA. The mark was the lowest ERA for a California staff since 2019, and was led by NFCA All-West Region honoree Haylei Archer.

Danielle is a rising star in the softball world,” said Allister. “As a head coach you always keep an unofficial list of candidates should an opening occur. Danielle has been at the top of my unofficial list for a few years now. She is smart, driven and cares deeply about the student-athlete experience. I am so excited to welcome Danielle and her family to The Farm.

Prior to her time with the Bears, O’Toole Trejo spent three seasons as the pitching coach at Cal State Fullerton. In 2023, the Titans pitching staff posted a 1.87 ERA, finishing 12th in the country in earned runs with just 98. Leading the charge was 2023 Big West Pitcher of the Year and NFCA All-West Region honoree Myka Sutherlin.

O’Toole-Trejo started her coaching career with two seasons as the pitching coach for the San Diego Toreros in 2018.

O’Toole-Trejo boasts a lengthy resume as a player, which includes an appearance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games with the Mexican National Team and a gold medal with Team USA at the World Cup of Softball in 2017.

At Arizona, O’Toole-Trejo was named the 2017 Pac-12 Pitcher of the Year and an NFCA First Team All-American. Before joining the Wildcats from San Diego State, O’Toole-Trejo earned Mountain West Pitcher of the Year honors in 2014 and Freshman of the Year in 2013.

O’Toole-Trejo replaces Tori Nyberg on the Cardinal staff, after Nyberg stepped away from collegiate coaching to pursue other opportunities.
