PARIS – Playing in her first Olympic Games, Stanford alumna Kathryn Plummer captured a silver medal with the United States after falling in the gold medal match to Italy, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17.
The United States won its seventh Olympic medal, tying the Soviet Union for the most all-time. It is the fifth straight Olympic Games the Red, White and Blue has finished on the podium.
Plummer, who is the 11th Olympian in program history, extended Stanford’s streak of having at least one former Cardinal player on each indoor U.S. Olympic roster since 1988.
The Aliso Viejo native led Stanford to three NCAA titles (2016, 2018, 2019) and four trips to the Final Four during her time on The Farm. The outside hitter was a two-time AVCA National Player of the Year (2017, 2018), the AVCA Freshman of the Year (2016), a three-time AVCA All-American and two-time Pac-12 Player of the Year. She also won the Honda Sport Award for Volleyball and earned the AAU Sullivan Award in 2018 - presented to the best amatuer athlete in the United States.
A school-record 59 Stanford-affiliated athletes qualified to compete at the Olympic Games Paris 2024. The Cardinal’s 59 Olympians (20 male, 39 female) hail from 14 nations and feature representation across 20 varsity sports. For the third consecutive edition of the Games, Stanford boasts more Team USA selections (37) than any other school.
