Stanford lands at No. 3 in the preseason CWPA Poll

STANFORD, Calif. - The Cardinal men's water polo team will enter the 2024 campaign ranked No. 3 in the nation, per the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Preseason Poll. Stanford slots in just behind MPSF rivals UCLA and California in the top two positions.

The Cardinal picks up the third-place selection thanks to three returning All-America honorees. Jackson Painter, Riley Pittman and Ethan Parrish all return to The Farm after dominant 2023 seasons. The trio combined for 163 goals and 90 assists in guiding Stanford to another successfull season.

Headlining newcomers to the team is transfer Dash McFarland. The reigning Big West Player of the Year contributed a whopping 82 goals last season for the Gauchos, and joins transfer goalkeeper West Temkin as experienced additions to in 2024.

Stanford opens the season on September 7 at the Triton Invitational, hosted by UC San Diego. The first action from Avery is set for Sept. 12 against UCSB, starting at 4:00 p.m. PT.
