STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 2 Cardinal moved to 5-0 on the season with a 16-9 win over No. 12 UCSB today. Jackson Painter and Botond Balogh led the way with hat tricks, as the Cardinal scored six unanswered goals across the second and third quarters to secure the win.

Stanford took the early lead, thanks to a pair of goals from Dash McFarland in the first three minutes. UCSB scored twice in the quarter, but strikes from Will Schneider and Jackson Painter send the Card into the second quarter up 4-2.

The Cardinal extended the lead in the second, with Chase McFarland, Riley Pittman and Painter each scoring to make it 7-4 Stanford at halftime.

Stanford started the second half on fire with five unanswered goals to push the lead to 12-4. A pair of Gaucho goals briefly cut it to 12-6, but Botond Balogh scored his second goal of the game with three seconds left to make it a 13-6 lead heading into the final frame.

Balogh completed the hat trick in the fourth, and goals from CJ Indart and Ben Forer made it a 16-9 final score. The three goals are the first of Balogh’s career, just five games into the freshman’s first season on The Farm.

In addition to the Painter and Balogh hat tricks, Riley Pittman led the way with a game-high six assists. Goalkeeper West Temkin made six saves and four steals in the win.

The Cardinal is on the road this weekend, heading south to take on No. 10 Long Beach State on Sunday. The top-10 bout starts at noon PT.
