STANFORD, Calif. – Setter Kami Miner and outside hitter Elia Rubin have been named to the Watch List for its 2024 Division I Player of the Year Award, presented by Nike Volleyball.
The inaugural list includes 36 players from 21 schools, and the names will be revealed in groups of 12 over three days from Wednesday, Sept. 18 to Friday, Sept. 20. There is no order to which list players are on, except that all of a school’s candidates will appear the same day.
The Watch List will be narrowed down in November, and then the names of the finalists will be released before the AVCA Convention. The committee can add players not from the original group of 36 to the list that will come out in November. The 2024 AVCA Player of the Year will be announced on Friday, Dec. 20, in Louisville, Kentucky, during the AVCA Convention.
Miner is averaging 10.50 assists per set while guiding the Cardinal offense to a .288 clip through its first eight matches. The Redondo Beach native is a two-time AVCA First Team All-American and a two-time Pac-12 Setter of the Year. She has recorded a double-double in six of her first seven matches played.
Rubin, an AVCA Second Team All-American in 2023, leads the Cardinal with 4.14 kills per set, 0.34 aces per set, 2.34 digs per set and 4.67 points per set.
No. 2 Stanford closes out its nonconference schedule on Saturday, hosting No. 11 Kentucky at Maples Pavilion. First serve is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
