Card Tops Long Beach State to Open MPSF Invite

Another top-10 win puts Stanford at 7-0 to start the season

Scoresheet

BERKELEY, Calif. – The No. 2 Cardinal moved to 7-0 on the season today, with a 14-10 win over No. 10 Long Beach State at day one of the MPSF Invitational. Stanford is now 4-0 on the season in games against teams ranked in the top 10.

Jackson Painter and Riley Pittman led the way offensively, each recording hat tricks. Dash McFarland, Soren Jensen and C.J. Indart all contributed two goals as well for a balanced Stanford attack.

The Card went into halftime with an 8-5 lead, but a strong third quarter from Long Beach cut the lead to just one at 10-9. Stanford answered back in the fourth, ripping off four unanswered goals to start the quarter before finishing with a 14-10 final score.

West Temkin had another strong game in goal, making seven saves in the win.

After dropping an early-season contest to Long Beach last season, the Card has now beaten the southern California foe twice to start the 2024 season.

The MPSF Invitational moves along tomorrow, with a pair of games for the Cardinal beginning at 11:30 a.m. PT against No. 12 UC Davis. Day two wraps up at 4:30 p.m. PT against No. 3 USC.
