Stanford Earns Academic Recognition

15 Cardinal gymnasts named CGA All-America Scholar Athletes, with fourteen selected as first-team honorees

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford was well represented, both as a team and individually, in the College Gymnastics Association (CGA) annual academic awards revealed by the organization on Monday morning. 

The Cardinal ranked second nationally with a 3.541 team GPA, trailing only Illinois (3.72) in the team rankings 

The CGA's top ten academic programs are listed as follows:

1.     Illinois: 3.72

2.     Stanford: 3.6

3.     William & Mary: 3.54

4.     Michigan: 3.49

5.     Springfield: 3.49

6.     Ohio State: 3.34

7.     Nebraska: 3.31

8.     Navy: 3.29

9.     California: 3.28

10.  Penn State: 3.27 

The CGA also recognized 15 Cardinal student-athletes with All-American Scholar-Athlete awards, fourteen of whom received first-team accolades with a GPA of 3.50 or higher.

Recent porgram graduate J.R. Chou was recognized as a First Team Academic All-America Scholar-Athlete for the fifth time in his career. 

Chou highlights a group of first team honorees that also includes Mark Berlaga, Jeremy Bischoff, Arun Chhetri, Zach Green, Nick Kuebler, Marcus Kushner, Reece Landsperger, Ian Lasic-Ellis, Luke McFarland, Toma Murakawa, Brandon Nguyen, David Shamah, and Colt Walker.

Kaien J-Spencer was the lone Cardinal name a second team All-America selections, awarded for attaining a GPA between 3.499 and 3.2.
