No. 5 Stanford takes out No. 6 Wisconsin

MILWAUKEE – Elia Rubin and Kami Miner registered double-doubles to lead No. 5 Stanford in a 26-24, 18-25, 25-22, 25-22 win over No. 6 Wisconsin, Monday, in the State Farm Women’s College Volleyball Showcase at Fiserv Forum.

Stanford (3-0) hit .316 as a team and recorded double-digit aces (10) for a second straight night. The Cardinal remains undefeated all-time versus Wisconsin (0-3) at 6-0.

Miner controlled the offense with 47 assists, and had 12 digs, three kills, an ace and a block in the win. The senior recorded her 4,000th career assists against the Badgers, becoming the seventh player in school history to reach the milestone. In the rally-scoring era to 25, Miner is currently third on the program’s career list.

Rubin notched her second straight double-double, finishing with a match-highs of 20 kills on .349 hitting and 15 digs. The junior also tallied three aces and an assists. Fifth-year libero Elena Oglivie totaled 14 digs and five assists for the Cardinal.

Redshirt freshman Ipar Kurt had her best match in a Cardinal uniform, registering 16 kills on .324 hitting, two digs and an ace. Stanford trailed 24-21 in the first set, but Kurt reeled off three of the Cardinal’s final five points to spark the comeback.

Senior middle blocker Sami Francis hit .467 with eight kills on 15 swings with just one miscue, while freshman middle blocker Lizzy Andrew added six kills on .308 hitting. Sophomore opposite Jordyn Harvey again displayed her strength from the service line, tallying four aces to go with seven kills and a dig. 

Defensive specialists Taylor Beaven and Malyssa Cawa each collected three digs for Stanford. Freshman Taylor Yu came in to serve in all four sets, recording an ace to seal the first-set win.

Wisconsin, which hit .341 in the match and had seven aces and 7.0 blocks, was led by reigning AVCA Player of the Year Sarah Franklin. The outside hitter posted 18 kills on .304 hitting and 11 digs. Opposite Devyn Robinson had 10 kills on 23 errorless swings to hit .435.

Stanford closes out its trip to Milwaukee on Wednesday at No. 24 Marquette. First serve is slated for 5 p.m. PT on FloVolleyball.
