STANFORD, Calif. – Led by middle blocker Sami Francis, No. 5 Stanford swept Syracuse, 25-22, 25-13, 25-8, Friday, at Maples Pavilion.
Stanford (12-2, 4-1 ACC) hit .326 as a team, while holding Syracuse (12-5, 0-5 ACC) to a -.023 clip – the lowest by a Cardinal opponent this season. Stanford racked up 46 kills, 39 digs and three aces, while Syracuse finished with 17 kills and 28 digs. Both teams posted 7.0 blocks.
Francis led all players with 12 kills on .524 hitting and a match-high six blocks. Sophomore Jordyn Harvey moved from the right pin to the left on Friday as Elia Rubin was unavailable. Harvey and redshirt freshman Ipar Kurt each recorded 11 kills.
Setter Kami Miner dished out 37 assists and notched three kills, three digs and four blocks. Libero Elena Oglivie collected a match-best 12 digs and an ace.
Freshman Taylor Yu played opposite, posting a career-high six kills on .600 hitting to go with five digs and two blocks. Middle blocker Lizzy Andrew added three kills and a block.
Defensive specialist Anna Pringle turned in six digs and an assist, while freshman Malyssa Cawa chipped in with four digs and two assists. Senior Taylor Beaven notched her first ace of the season in the third set.
Syracuse was led by Sydnie Waller’s five kills. Setter Veronica Sierzant controlled the offense with 13 assists to go with two kills, two digs and three blocks. The Cardinal improves to 3-0 all-time versus the Orange.
Stanford is back in action on Saturday against Boston College for its Pink Match. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
