LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Junior Lumi Kostmayer’s rocket of a volley with two seconds remaining on the clock handed No. 6 Stanford (13-2-1, 5-2-1 ACC) a 1-0 buzzer-beating victory over Louisville (6-6-3, 1-5-1 ACC) on the road Thursday night in ACC play.

The goal was Kostmayer’s first of the season and the 12th of her career, and marked her fourth career game-winner. The native of Southbury, Conn. checked into the match in the 82nd minute before providing the heroics.
With the seconds ticking away toward what looked to be a scoreless draw, Elise Evans played a ball toward the top of the box from midfield where it was flicked on by Jasmine Aikey toward Kostmayer on the left side of the attack. The ball bounced twice and Kostmayer timed her volley perfectly, unleashing a left-footed rocket past Erynn Floyd and under the crossbar for the winner.
Both teams had limited chances throughout the match, as the two squads combined for just 16 total shots – including five in the first half.
The Cardinals nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 71st minute as Emma Kate Schroll unleashed a shot from the top of the box that was deflected by Evans and off the left post before bounding out of play for a corner kick.
Held to just two shots in the first half, Stanford put the pressure on late in the second stanza, capped by Kostmayer’s last-second goal, to finish with the 11-5 advantage.
The Cardinal put six of its 11 shots on frame, forcing Floyd into five saves. Stanford’s Haley Craig was credited with one save while locking up her ninth shutout of the season.
Stanford will remain on the road Sunday, visiting No. 12 Notre Dame for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
