KAILUA-KONA, Hawaii — Back in the top spot in the most recent Clippd rankings, Stanford women’s golf is back in the top spot of after one round of the Nanea Invitational. Taking place at Nanea Golf Club and playing as a par-73, the scores were low across the board for the top of the field Monday morning.
By shooting a 13-under 279 as a team on Monday, the Cardinal tied a program record for the best score shot on a par-73 (2022 Pac-12 Preview First Round at Nanea Golf Club). It is also tied for the ninth-lowest team round in relation to par in program history. All of this kept the Card ahead of a hard-charging Arizona State that actually led for most of the back nine. The Sun Devils finished Monday in second at 11-under, with San Jose State in third at 6-under.
In a three-way tie for first place Megha Ganne, who continues her hot start to her junior campaign. She shot a 6-under 67 on Monday, which is tied for the lowest under par she has been in one round in her collegiate career. The other time she went 6-under in a first round? She won the 2023 Carmel Cup, her only collegiate win to date. It was a clean round for Ganne, with six birdies including four on the back nine.
Competing as an individual, Kelly Xu is two strokes back of the lead with a 4-under 69, putting her in a tie for fourth overall. She joined Ganne in starting on the first tee and aside from two bogeys on the front nine, she was clean the rest of the way. She made up a lot of ground down the stretch, with three birdies in her final five holes.
In the best start to a tournament in her collegiate career, Andrea Revuelta is sitting tied for eighth after shooting a 3-under 70. When looking at her scorecard, all the damage came in the first five holes. She started on four and birdied holes four and five. To close out her round, she birdied on one and two, in addition to 18. Those were her five birdies on Monday, all clustered together. Monday marked the first time this season that Revuelta has had a first round under par.
A total of 11 players are within three strokes of the lead after one round. Isla McDonald-O’Brien of Arizona State and Lucia Lopez Ortega of San Jose State join Ganne in a share of first place at 6-under. Xu is tied with Raya Nakao of Oregon State in fourth.
Round two of the Nanea Invitational takes place on Tuesday morning and the final round gets underway on Wednesday. This is the final tournament of the fall for Stanford with the Cardinal not in action again until February.
