LOS ANGELES –No. 3 Stanford knocked No. 1 UCLA from the unbeaten ranks this afternoon, holding the Bruins to a season-low nine goals in a 9-7 Card win. The win puts Stanford at 12-1 on the season and 1-0 in MPSF play.
Stanford jumped out to an early lead, outscoring the Bruins 5-1 in the first quarter. Heading into halftime, the Card led 6-4.
The Cardinal kept the scoring even after the break, thanks to a pair of goals from Alex Gheorghe. Goalkeeper West Temkin made 11 saves in the win, tying a season high and keeping UCLA to under 12 goals for the first time this season.
Soren Jensen joined Gheorghe with a pair of goals, giving Jensen eight scores in the last three games.
Stanford leaves UCLA with a victory for the first time since 2020, when the Card won 11-8 at the MPSF tournament.
The Cardinal is back in the pool tomorrow, playing at No. 2 USC at 1:00 p.m. PT. The game will be broadcast on Overnght.
