STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford's offensive struggles continued on Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 12 Duke, 3-0, in its fourth consecutive loss against a ranked opponent.
It was the Cardinal's fourth time going scoreless on the season as the team couldn't convert on its seven shots in the game. Stanford falls to 5-5 on the season (0-3 ACC), while Duke jumps to 7-4 after sweeping their West Coast road trip.
Jenny O'Grady tallied a pair of offensive attacks in the game, while Anna Ghuliani, Star Horlock, Liv Martin, and Tottie Taylor each fired one shot apiece. Daisy Ford recorded four saves between the posts in the loss.
After Stanford stopped each of the Blue Devils' first five shots, Duke would break through in the second period as Charlie van Oirschot would rifle a low shot past Ford for the opening score.
After weathering some offensive momentum from the Cardinal in the third quarter, Duke would double its lead in the fourth as Alaina McVeigh would bury the penalty corner chance.
Stanford would pull Ford out of the net in the 56th minute looking to spark some late-game offense, but the Blue Devils would convert on the empty net with their third goal of the day to seal the game.
The season continues for the Cardinal next weekend as they prepare for a four-game road stretch, beginning with Syracuse on Oct. 11 and Boston College on Oct. 13.
