STANFORD, Calif. - The Cardinal wrapped up its first ICSA event of the fall slate over the weekend as junior skipper Chapman Petersen came home with a top-five finish in the ICSA Singlehanded Championships.
Petersen finished fifth for the Glen S. Taylor trophy with 92 points and three race wins in the 13-race event, slotting in 35 points behind champion Daniel Escudero of the Webb Institute.
"Conditions were challenging on the first day of racing, but Chapman was able to regroup on day two and put a solid day down with a few more knots of breeze on the course,"
It was a resilient effort from Petersen after battling through some difficult conditions in Saturday's portion of the event, climbing back from a slow start with six top-six finishes in the final nine races, including three consecutive race wins in races 8-10, to ultimately place fifth.
Stanford returns to national competition next weekend as the program prepares for the ICSA Match Race Championship on November 15-17.
