HUNTSVILLE, Ala. -- Four members of the Stanford beach volleyball team accepted pairs invitations to compete in the third annual Women's Pairs National Championship at the AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championships Nov. 15-17, held at the John Hunt Park Sand Volleyball Complex in Huntsville, Ala. Sophomores Brooke Rockwell and Ruby Sorra enter as the eighth seed while first-year Avery Jackson and senior Taylor Wilson enter the 64-pair tournament as the No. 11 seed.
Schools have been awarded bids for the pairs event based on their performance from the previous spring season. Stanford's coaching staff determined which student-athletes would compete in the pairs championship. Chosen pairs were seeded the week of the championship using current TruVolley rankings.
The Cardinal is one of only three programs (TCU and UCLA) to have both entries seeded in the tournament’s top 11 pairs.
The national championship competition will consist of a three-day tournament with three pool-play matches on day one, followed by bracket play—played to place—on days two and three. All pairs will compete on all three days.
Rockwell is the lone member of the Cardinal to make a repeat trip to Huntsville, finishing second overall in the tournament in 2023 with then-senior partner Xolani Hodel.
Rockwell/Sora kicks off action this Friday in Pool 8, competing against pairs from Washington, the University of North Florida and UC Davis.
Jackson/Wilson start play on the same day in Pool 11, taking on pairs from Florida State, Tulane and Georgia State.
Both pairs compete in three matches on Nov. 15, beginning at 8 am PT. Results from pool play will seed the Stanford duos' action for the rest of the tournament.
Updates throughout the weekend can be found on the team's X and Instagram accounts.
Live results for each match can be found here. Free broadcasts of some matches will be available on VBTV.
A recap of the Cardinal's efforts in Huntsville will be posted after the conclusion of the event.
