Card Quiets Cavaliers

Stanford sweeps Virginia to notch 42nd 20-win season

STANFORD, Calif. – Opposite Jordyn Harvey registered a career-high 16 kills to lead No. 7 Stanford in a 25-20, 25-17, 25-17 win over Virginia, Thursday, in Maples Pavilion. 

The Cardinal (20-4, 12-3 ACC) tallied its seventh consecutive sweep at home and reached the 20-win plateau for the 42nd time in program history. Stanford hit .440 for the match while holding Virginia (19-7, 9-6 ACC) to a .135 clip, and out dug the Cavaliers 46-27.

Harvey’s career-high 16 kills came on a .467 attack percentage. The sophomore also recorded three digs and a block. Outside hitter Elia Rubin added 14 kills on .500 hitting, nine digs, three blocks, two assists and two aces.

Stanford improves to 95-12 at Maples Pavilion under Kevin Hambly, The Montag Family Director of Women’s Volleyball, and has dropped just two sets at home in 2024.

Senior Kami Miner, the reigning ACC Setter of the Week, turned in her team-leading 14th double-double of the year with 38 assists and a match-high 15 digs. Libero Elena Oglivie anchored the defense with 10 digs and had six assists.

Middle blocker Sami Francis hit a career-best .778 with seven kills on nine errorless swings to go with three blocks. Outside hitter Ipar Kurt chipped in with eight kills and three blocks, while freshman Lizzy Andrew totaled four kills on .500 hitting and a match-high five blocks.

Defensive specialist Anna Pringle collected five digs, had a career-best two assists and tallied her second ace of the season. Sophomore Koko Kirsch had an ace and a dig off the bench.

Virginia was led by outside hitter Elayna Duprey’s 10 kills on .348 hitting and four digs. Libero Milan Gomillion had a team-high 10 digs. 

Stanford caps off its four-match homestand on Friday against Virginia Tech. First serve is slated for 7 p.m. on ACCNX.
