CORAL GABLES, Fla. – After taking a 2-1 lead on the road at Miami, No. 5 Stanford fell in five sets, 25-18, 21-25, 25-20, 29-31, 14-16, Friday, in the Knight Sports Complex.
Stanford (16-4, 8-3 ACC) out hit Miami (15-7, 6-5 ACC) .323 to .307 for the match. However, the Hurricanes hit .435 in the fourth set and limited itself to just four hitting errors in the final two sets.
Setter Kami Miner controlled the offense with a season-high 50 assists and had four kills, eight digs, three blocks and an ace. Libero Elena Oglivie tallied a match-high 17 digs to go with three assists and an ace.
Outside hitter Ipar Kurt led Stanford with 17 kills on .316 hitting and four blocks. Middle blocker Sami Francis recorded 14 kills on 27 errorless swings to hit .519. The senior also posted a match-high nine blocks.
Outside hitter Elia Rubin finished with 14 kills but was held to .158 hitting. The junior collected nine digs, four blocks and matched her season-high with three aces. Opposite Jordyn Harvey added 11 kills, six digs, two blocks and an ace.
Freshman Lizzy Andrew chipped in with six kills on .556 hitting and three blocks. Taylor Yu had four digs, two aces and an assist.
Miami was led by Grace Lopez, who registered a match-high 27 kills on .407 hitting, 13 digs and four blocks. Friday was the first meeting between the Cardinal and Hurricanes, and just the second five-set match for Stanford this season.
The Cardinal closes out the weekend on Sunday at No. 23 Florida State. First serve is slated for 10 a.m. PT on ESPN.
