STANFORD, Calif. - The No. 2 Cardinal utilized a 13-goal second half to surge past No. 17 Santa Clara this afternoon, moving to 17-3 (3-2) on the season. Five different players scored multiple goals for Stanford, led by Soren Jensen's four.
Stanford jumped out to the early advantage, taking a 4-3 lead after the first quarter. Dash McFarland led the way early, scoring twice.
The Card added a pair of unanswered goals to start the second, pushing the lead to 6-3. Santa Clara answered back with a pair of goals before halftime to give Stanford a one goal lead heading into the break.
Stanford opened it up in the third quarter, outscoring the Broncos 6-1 in the period to expand the lead the 12-6. Ryan Ohl and Ethan Parrish each scored within the final minute of the quarter, and the Cardinal was able to keep the momentum after the break as well.
Alex Gheorghe and Jensen each scored within the first minute of the fourth quarter to continue padding the lead.
When the game ended at 19-9, the Cardinal onslought featured two goals each from Dash McFarland, Ryan Ohl, Guideo Leonardi and Gheorghe. Riley Pittman, Grant Watson, Will Schneider, Chase McFarland, Ethan Parrish, Botond Balogh and Tanner Pulice all scored to make it 12 different scorers for Stanford.
West Temkin finished with seven goals in the cage for Stanford, adding in an assist to join in the scoring effort.
The Cardinal is at home again tomorrow, hosting No. 12 UC San Diego at Avery Aquatic Center. The game starts at 12:00 p.m. PT, and can be streamed on Overnght.
