Cardinal Punches Ticket to College Cup

          

Hosting ACC-foe No. 13 Notre Dame on Friday in the NCAA quarterfinal round, No. 14 Stanford (16-4-2) defeated the Fighting Irish (14-4-4) 2-0 from Cagan Stadium to punch its ticket to a second consecutive College Cup.

The Cardinal will meet No. 3 Wake Forest on Friday, December 6 in a national semifinal. The other semifinal will feature No. 8 North Carolina and either No. 1 Duke or No. 12 Virginia Tech – ensuring that every Final Four team plays in the ACC.

Top 3 Win on Senior Day

         

No. 6 Stanford closed out the regular season with its 10th ranked win, topping No. 3 Louisville, 25-23, 25-22, 27-29, 27-25, on Senior Day at Maples Pavilion.

Stanford (25-4) finishes its inaugural ACC season with a 17-3 mark in conference play, tying with Louisville (25-5) for second place. The Cardinal improves to 12-0 at Maples Pavilion this season.

Women's Volleyball vs. #3 Louisville Highlights

The Stanford women’s volleyball team fought off two match points to prevent a sweep, and instead rallied for a five-set victory over No. 19 Georgia Tech on Wednesday.

No. 6 Stanford got a career-high 20 kills off the bench from redshirt freshman Ipar Kurt to pull off a 22-25, 20-25, 26-24, 25-18, 15-12 triumph before a loud packed house of 1,200 in tiny O’Keefe Gymnasium.

Card dominates homestand

    

Brooke Demetre tied a career high with 17 points, Mary Ashley Stevenson scored all of her 10 in the second half and Stanford used a strong finish to beat visiting Cal Poly on Monday night, 81-45.

The Cardinal (6-1) was up just eight at halftime, but kicked it into gear coming out of the break. Stanford closed the game on a 31-10 run, including a 20-1 spurt to begin the fourth quarter in winning its 10th consecutive game against Cal Poly (3-4).

 

Women's basketball vs. Cal Poly Highlights

 Elena Bosgana scored a career-high 26 points and didn’t miss from the floor to lead Stanford to an 84-54 win over visiting UC San Diego on Friday afternoon.

Bosgana poured in her 26 on a perfect 10-of-10 shooting, including 5-of-5 from deep, tying the school record for single-game field goal percentage (min. 10 attempts). Kim Kupferer was 11-of-11 from the floor in a game against Pacific on Jan. 24, 1981. The senior also had six rebounds, three assists and four steals in her 30 minutes. The only “blemish” in her otherwise perfect game was a missed free throw in the third quarter.

Season Ends in Penalties

       

Stanford men's soccer fell on the wrong side of a hard-fought battle against top-seeded Ohio State on Sunday evening, falling 4-2 in penalty kicks against the Buckeyes to end the 2024 campaign in the Sweet Sixteen of the NCAA tournament.

Officially recorded as a 0-0 draw, Stanford ends the 2024 season with a 9-5-6 mark on the year. Ohio State jumps to 15-1-4 record with the win and advances to the Elite Eight against Wake Forest next weekend.

Stanford Names Andrew Luck to Football General Manager Position

         

Former Cardinal quarterback and NFL standout Andrew Luck has been named Stanford Football General Manager, the Cardinal’s Jaquish and Kenninger Director of Athletics Bernard Muir announced Saturday. Luck will oversee all aspects of the Cardinal Football program and begin immediately.

“I am a product of this University, of Nerd Nation; I love this place,” Luck said. “I believe deeply in Stanford’s unique approach to athletics and academics and the opportunity to help drive our program back to the top. Coach Taylor has the team pointed in the right direction, and I cannot wait to work with him, the staff, and the best, brightest, and toughest football players in the world.”
