STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford fencing head coach Alexander Massialas has added Stefano Lucchetti to the coaching staff, overseeing saber specialists. Lucchetti brings a rich, five-generation legacy in fencing and an impressive international athletic career.
Lucchetti brings extensive coaching experience to The Farm. He served as head coach for the University of London Fencing Team, where he led the team to a historic British Universities & Colleges Sport (BUCS) League victory. He also worked with BUCS in Nottingham, focusing on talent recruitment and event management.
Representing Argentina on the world stage, Lucchetti has achieved remarkable success as a saber fencer, including three Pan American Championship titles, a South American Games win, and numerous World Cup medals. Previously ranked among the top 50 saber fencers in the world, Lucchetti also held leadership roles as captain of both his high school and university fencing teams.
Lucchetti has been coached by his father, Marcos Lucchetti, since a young age, but his training has also been enriched by working with top coaches from the U.S., France, Hungary, and Italy, including national team coaches from these fencing powerhouses. His broad coaching background has given him a unique, versatile approach to both training and mentorship.
In addition to his athletic career, Lucchetti has an outstanding academic background. He holds a BA in Global Politics and International Relations from the University of London and an LLM in International Law from the University of Nottingham. His international education and professional experiences equip him with a unique perspective that he brings to Stanford’s student-athletes both on and off the strip.
