SAN FRANCISCO – Nunu Agara had her third double-double of the season with 17 points and 10 rebounds, but Stanford lost to No. 11 Ohio State 84-59 on Friday night in the Invisalign Bay Area Women’s Classic at Chase Center.
The Cardinal (8-4) ended the first quarter missing five straight shots and eight of nine during a drought covering the final 4:02 without a field goal and 6:47 without a basket spanning the two periods.
Stanford, which entered Friday as the nation’s second-best 3-point shooting team, went just 2-of-16 from deep (.125), tying a season-low for 3-point makes. The Cardinal had four assists and 19 turnovers against Ohio State’s full-court press and the Buckeyes (12-0) had a 17-1 edge in points off turnovers.
Stanford out-rebounded Ohio State, 41-35 but took 11 less field goals and only forced one steal. Down 14 at the break, the Cardinal was able to get it to 10 on a couple of free throws from Tess Heal early in the third, but no closer. The Buckeyes would answer with an 8-0 run to go up 45-27 midway through the period.
Elena Bosgana matched her career high with 11 rebounds for the second consecutive game for Stanford. Heal was the only other Cardinal in double figures with 10.
Cotie McMahon had 16 points and six rebounds leading to lead six Buckeyes in double figures scoring. McMahon, who came in averaging a team-high 18.6 points per game, missed eight of her first nine shots and wound up 5-for-15 from the floor and 6-of-9 at the line.
