Ducks Top Cardinal in San Jose Tip-Off

Maxime Raynaud tallied his nation-leading 10th double-double of the season

SAN JOSE, Calif. – Taking the court for the final time in non-conference action, Stanford men’s basketball fell to No. 10/10 Oregon, 76-61, at SAP Center in the San Jose Tip-Off. The Cardinal will enter the remainder of ACC play with a 9-3 (1-0 ACC) overall record.

Maxime Raynaud led the way with game-highs of 20 points and 13 rebounds, marking his 10th double-double of the season, which leads the country. Raynaud, who entered the contest ranked in the top-10 nationally in scoring and rebounding, entered Stanford’s all-time top-10 rebounding list in the second half with his 758th career rebound.

Benny Gealer was also in double figures with 10 points, including a 2-for-3 tally from beyond the 3-point arc.

Stanford and Oregon (11-1) traded baskets over a slow-starting first half, with Stanford leading after 7:40 of action, 11-9, behind eight early points from Raynaud. Oregon responded with an 8-0 run to take the lead, and it finished the half on a 9-0 run to lead at the half, 36-19.

Raynaud scored 11 of his 20 points in the second frame while Gealer scored all 10 of his over the final 20 minutes and Evan Stinson pitched in seven second half points. The Cardinal outscored the Ducks in the second half, 42-40, but were unable to close the deficit past 13 points in the frame.

Stanford returns to ACC action on the road at No. 25/RV Clemson on Wednesday, Jan. 1 at 1 p.m. PT. The contest will air on ACC Network.
