HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - With three individual champions, Stanford captured the team title at the 60th Ken Kraft Midlands Championships, Monday, at NOW Arena.
The Cardinal scored 157.0 points for its first Midlands team title in program history. Rutgers (147.0) was second, while Penn (131.0) rounded out the top 3.
Sixth year Jaden Abas (149) and redshirt freshmen Tyler Knox (133) and Lorenzo Norman (174) won individual titles to lead the Cardinal. It marks the first individual Midlands titles by a Stanford wrestler since Ryan Mango (125) won in 2012.
Knox was voted the Dan Gable Most Outstanding Wrestler, while Norman took home the Jack Leese Champion of Champions award. They become the second Cardinal to win their respectie honors, joining Matt Gentry who won both in 2004.
In total 10 Cardinal finished on the podium. Joining Abas, Knox and Norman were Hunter Garvin (3rd - 165 pounds), Jason Miranda (4th - 141 pounds), Nick Stemmet (4th - 197 pounds), Peter Ming (5th - 285 pounds), Grigor Cholakyan (7th - 157 pounds), Brook Byers (7th - 197 pounds) and Collin Guffey (8th - 174 pounds).
