STANFORD, Calif. – The No. 4 Cardinal will be continuing their season – Stanford pushed past No. 5 Princeton 15-8 to book a semifinal date with the No. 1 UCLA Bruins tomorrow. 10 different players scored for the hosting Cardinal, with the freshman trio of Botond Balogh, Ryan Ohl and Will Schneider scoring five times in their NCAA Championship debut.
Stanford jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead, thanks to a goal and an assist from Jackson Painter. Princeton rattled off three unanswered goals to take the lead into the first break.
In the second quarter, it was CJ Indart scoring to level the game at three. Dash McFarland and Alex Gheorghe each scored in the final minute and a half of the quarter to send Stanford into the break up 6-4. The Cardinal rallied to outscore Princeton 4-1 in the quarter.
A 3-2 edge for Stanford in the third quarter sent the Card into the fourth leading 9-6.
The Cardinal piled on the fourth, scoring six goals to lock up the 15-8 win.
Balogh paced Stanford with a hat trick, assisting once as well. Jackson Painter led all scorers in total points, scoring twice and assisting three times. In the cage, West Temkin made eight saves before Grifen Price entered as a substitute in the fourth quarter. Price saved a goal, and scored one himself.
The Cardinal advances to tomorrow’s semifinal with No. 1 UCLA, after Stanford split the regular season series with the Bruins. The game starts at 2:00 p.m. PT at Avery Aquatic Center, and can be streamed on NCAA.com.
