SAN DIEGO – The Cardinal softball team was unable to rally from an early deficit, and fell 2-1 to No. 25 Kentucky this afternoon at the SDSU Season Kickoff.
Kentucky took an early lead in the second inning, with a solo homer to right putting the Wildcats up 1-0.
Senior pitcher Regan Krause entered in relief in the third inning, and in the fifth came up big to maintain the one-run game. With the bases loaded and no outs, Krause retired three-straight batters to strand all three runners.
Then in the bottom half of the fifth, a one-out double by sophomore Emily Jones scored freshman Jade Berry from first to tie the game.
Kentucky answered in the top of the sixth to retake the lead 2-1.
The Card is back in action tomorrow for day three of the SDSU Season Kickoff, with a doubleheader starting at 9:00 a.m. PT against Kentucky. After the rematch with the Wildcats, Stanford will take on Minnesota.
