COLUMBIA, Mo. - Behind three bonus-point victories, No. 15 Stanford bounced back with a 27-15 win at No. 21 Missouri, Sunday, at the Hearnes Center.
The Cardinal (5-2) defeated Missouri (2-7) for the first time in program history after being shut out by the Tigers last season at home.
Stanford, which has yet to wrestle a 125 pounder in a dual this season, received bonus points from No. 10 Tyler Knox (133), No. 4 Lorenzo Norman (174) and No. 24 Nick Stemmet (197).
Knox put the Cardinal on the board first with a 12-2 major decision over Kade Moore at 133 pounds. There was no score after the first. Knox chose down to start the second and scored a reversal before Moore countered with one of his own. Knox then scored another to take a 4-2 advantage into the final period. Moore went down and Knox racked up seven near fall points in the third and tacked on the riding-time point to improve to 7-0 in duals. The redshirt freshman moves to 16-2 overall.
Trailing 9-4 in the team score, true freshman EJ Parco registered his first collegiate dual win with a 5-1 decision over Zeke Seltzer at 149 pounds. With no score, Seltzer went down to start the second. Parco was able to ride him out in the period. With 2:00 of riding time to work with, Parco went down to begin the final frame. After notching a quick escape, he gave up a point to Seltzer but had riding time locked up and scored a takedown as the clock expired. He is now 6-3 on the season.
No. 28 Grigor Cholakyan, another true freshman, bounced back from a tough loss on Friday night with an 8-6 decision over James Conway at 157 pounds. The rookie scored a takedown in the first and second periods and tallied two escapes to move to 11-6 overall and 5-2 in duals.
Hunter Garvin, ranked No. 14 at 165 pounds, added to the Stanford lead with an 8-3 decision over Joel Mylin. Leading 3-2 going into the final period, Garvin chose down to start. He posted an escape and then scored his second takedown of the match to pull ahead and finished with the riding time point. The redshirt sophomore is now 11-6 on the season and 4-2 in duals.
Norman capped off a run of four straight wins by Stanford with a dominating 22-5 technical fall in 5:00 over Jake Stoffel. Ranked No. 4 nationally, Norman recorded his fifth technical fall of the season and improved to 16-1 on the season and 7-0 in duals.
After Abraham Wojcikiewicz was pinned at 184 pounds, Stemmet returned the favor with a fall in 3:45 over Jesse Cassatt at 197 pounds. It was the third pin of the season for the fifth-year who is ranked No. 24 nationally. He moves to 11-8 overall and 3-4 in duals.
Fifth-year Peter Ming closed out the dual with a wild 11-10 decision over Jarrett Stoner at heavyweight. Down 7-2 going into the third, he chose neutral to start the final period. He scored three takedowns in the third to seal the comeback. It was the first dual win of the year for Ming, who improved to 9-4 overall.
Up next, Stanford returns to The Farm for its Youth Wrestling Day against Arizona State on Sunday, Jan. 19 at 3 p.m. in Maples Pavilion.
