STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford men’s basketball finished an unblemished week at Maples Pavilion, rolling past Virginia, 88-65, on Saturday afternoon at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal improves to 11-5 this season and 3-2 in the ACC.
Maxime Raynaud led the Cardinal with 24 points and 10 rebounds, giving the ACC’s leading scorer and rebounder his nation-leading 13th double-double of the season. Oziyah Sellers finished with 15 points, including a trio of 3-pointers, and Jaylen Blakes was also in double figures with 10. Ryan Agarwal stuffed the stat sheet with nine points, seven rebounds and a career-best six assists with no turnovers. Aidan Cammann and Donavin Young added career-highs of nine and eight points apiece, respectively.
The Cardinal offense shot 50.8 percent from the floor and 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, making 10 triples as a team and holding a 40-12 advantage in the paint.
The 88 points are the most Virginia (8-8, 1-4 ACC) has allowed this season, and the most against the Cavaliers since Dec. 26, 2020 against Gonzaga (98).
Stanford got off to a quick 6-0 start with triples from Young and Sellers, but the teams traded baskets over the first 10 minutes. After another three from Sellers gave Stanford the edge with 10:03 to go, Raynaud pushed the advantage to 29-22 with a 6-0 run of his own. Benny Gealer and Agarwal hit threes to start an 11-2 run to close the half, while Blakes banked in a 30-foot runner at the buzzer to help the Cardinal lead by double digits at the half, 40-30.
Virginia could get no closer than nine points in the second period, with Stanford outscoring the Cavaliers, 48-35. Raynaud scored 14 of his 24 points in the second half, while Cammann scored all nine of his. Nine different players scored over the final 20 minutes, with the Cardinal ending the game on a 15-2 run.
Cole Kastner appeared against his former school, as the graduate student was a three-time All-American lacrosse player and former national champion at Virginia.
