WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Opening its second road trip to the East Coast in ACC action, Stanford men’s basketball fell late to Wake Forest, 80-67, at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Cardinal moves to 11-6 this season and 3-3 in the ACC.
Oziyah Sellers led four Stanford players in double figures with 16 points while Jaylen Blakes had 15 with seven assists. Maxime Raynaud and Ryan Agarwal scored 14 points apiece, while Raynaud secured 11 rebounds for his nation-leading 14th double-double of the season.
The 7-footer from Paris ended the night on 1,265 career points, passing Don Griffin ’69 and Anthony Goods ’09 on Stanford’s all-time list while matching Chris Hernandez ’06 for 29th in Cardinal history.
Stanford got out to a nine-point lead over the first three minutes, 13-4, led by eight points from Blakes. The Cardinal led 23-15 with 7:21 remaining in the period, but Wake Forest (13-4, 5-1 ACC) responded with a 12-4 run to tie the game at 27-27. Sellers scored six of Stanford’s final eight points in the period, and the Cardinal led at the half 35-33.
Raynaud scored Stanford’s first 12 points of the second half, helping the Cardinal to a 47-44 advantage with 13:08 to go. The Cardinal led for nearly 24 minutes on the night, but Wake Forest took the lead with 8:03 to play. Baskets from Sellers and Aidan Cammann made it a one-point contest with 5:17 to play, but the Demon Deacons ended the game on a 16-4 run to earn the result.
Stanford moves to 1-1 all-time against Wake Forest, having previously earned a win in the second round of the 1997 NCAA Tournament in the first meeting.
