CLEMSON, S.C. – On the East Coast for the first time in ACC action, Stanford men’s basketball fell to Clemson, 85-71, at Littlejohn Coliseum. The Cardinal moves to 9-4 this season and 1-1 in the ACC.
Oziyah Sellers led the Cardinal with 20 points on 7-for-9 shooting, marking his third 20-point outing of the season. Maxime Raynaud scored 14 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, giving the senior his nation-leading 11th double-double of the season. Jaylen Blakes added 13 points and five assists.
Meeting Clemson on the hardwood for the first time in program history, Stanford led 7-0 after 1:30 after baskets from Sellers, Raynaud and Blakes. The Cardinal led by as many as eight points in the first half, 25-17, after a 10-0 run, but Clemson closed the gap and took the lead with 11 seconds to go in the period. The Tigers (11-3, 3-0 ACC) led at the half, 43-41.
Stanford and Clemson were tied at 52-52 with 14:37 to go after a triple from Sellers, but the Tigers answered with a 19-5 run to take control of the contest. Baskets from Sellers and Blakes helped Stanford get as close as nine points with 4:58 to play, but Clemson held on to earn the result.
Raynaud continued his ascent through the Stanford scoring record book, climbing into 34th all-time after passing Mark Madsen and Dorian Pickens in the game.
