Men’s Tennis Downs Oklahoma, Advances to ITA Indoors

No. 18 Stanford earned a 4-1 win in Norman over No. 8 Oklahoma

NORMAN, Okla. – Winning a regional tournament at Oklahoma for the second consecutive season, No. 18 Stanford men’s tennis rolled past No. 8 Oklahoma, 4-1, to advance to the ITA Indoor National Championships. The Cardinal improves to 3-1 this season with the victory.

The Sooners led early in doubles, winning on courts one and two, but the Cardinal immediately rallied with first set wins in all six singles matches. Alex Razeghi leveled the match at 1-1 with a win at No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-2, while Hudson Rivera put Stanford in the lead moments later with a 6-2, 6-1 win in the fourth position.

The Cardinal closed singles play with a pair of ranked wins, starting with a 6-3, 6-2 victory from Max Basing to lift the Cardinal to a 3-1 lead. Samir Banerjee clinched the match at No. 1 singles, 6-4, 6-4.

Stanford also advanced to the 2024 NCAA Super Regionals with a win at Oklahoma, which was its third consecutive NCAA Regional triumph on the road. The Cardinal improves to 5-0 all-time against Oklahoma.

Stanford will travel to Waco, at Baylor, or Dallas, at SMU, for the round of 16 at the ITA Indoor National Championships, held Feb. 14-18. The Cardinal returns to action on Saturday, Feb. 1 at USC. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
