BERKELEY, Calif. -- The Stanford men’s swimming and diving team closes out its home season with the annual dual against rival Cal, on Friday at 1 p.m. at Berkeley’s Spieker Aquatics Complex.
No. 9 Stanford is 1-2. No. 3 Cal is 4-1. This is their second meeting of the season following a double dual with Arizona State in Tempe, Arizona, on November 7-8. Cal won that matchup, 181-172.
Friday will mark the 127th Big Splash between the Bears and Cardinal in a series that began in 1916. The Cardinal owns a 103-23 advantage after beating the No. 2 Bears, 170-130, at Stanford last year.
Among the expected marquee matchups are the 100 fly, which pits Dare Rose of Cal (44.52), ranked No. 6 in NCAA Division I against No. 7 Andrei Minakov of Stanford (44.57).
In the 200 individual medley, No. 7 Ron Polonsky of Stanford (1:41.66) takes on No. 11 Gabriel Jett of Cal (1:41.89).
In the 200 medley relay, Cal is No. 4 (1:22.40) and Stanford is No. 12 (1:23.34). In the 400 free relay, Stanford is No. 5 (2:47.89) and Cal is No. 10 (2:48.79).
In their most recent Big Splash in Berkeley, Cal won, 156-142, in 2023.
This is the final meet for both teams before their first Atlantic Coast Conference Championships, Feb. 18-22 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
