STANFORD, Calif. – Stanford right-handers Matt Scott and Joey Volchko have been named Preseason All-Americans according to Perfect Game, with both players landing on the third team.
The honors come as the duo prepares to open the 2025 season on February 14 at Cal State Fullerton.
Stanford’s Friday starter as a sophomore in 2024, Scott went 4-10 with a 5.96 ERA and a Pac-12-best 103 strikeouts (41st nationally) over 80 innings in 16 appearances. The native of Redding, Conn. managed a 2.86 strikeout-to-walk ratio (103 strikeouts compared to 36 walks) while averaging 11.59 strikeouts per game to rank second in the Pac-12.
Volchko went 2-1 with a 5.70 ERA, one save and 53 strikeouts over 42 2/3 innings in 20 appearances, including six starts, as a freshman in 2024. The native of Visalia, Calif. averaged 11.18 strikeouts per game and limited the opposition to a .256 average against.
Both players spent the summer of 2024 playing for the USA Collegiate National Team, with Volchko making one start and allowing one run on one hit with seven strikeouts over four innings in a 2-1 victory over select members of the Coastal Plain League on June 30. Scott made one start and allowed one hit with two strikeouts over four scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory over Chinese Taipei on July 3.
