Hong Collects National Honors

Asher Hong has been named MPSF and CGA Gymnast of the Week

STANFORD, Calif. - Junior gymnast Asher Hong has been named Gymnast of the Week by both the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) and the College Gymnastics Association (CGA), as announced by the organizational offices this week.

It is Hong's fourth national Gymnast of the Week honor in his career and the fifth time he has earned the honor at the conference level.

The Tomball, Texas native tallied a trio of event titles in Saturday's tri-meet against No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 12 Greenville, pacing the field on floor exercise, still rings, and vault. Hong's efforts on floor (14.150) and vault (14.350) were both season-bests, earning his first title of the season on each event.

His still rings crown was his third of the year, where the Tomball, Texas native scored a 14.850. Hong also added second-place finishes on the pommel horse (13.800) and parallel bars (13.650) to round out an impressive showing for the junior.

So far this season, Hong holds the nation's best 3score national average on still rings with a 14.500, while also ranking 10th on vault with a 14.133.

Cardinal gymnasts are now preparing for the Winter Cup on February 22 before the collegiate season resumes with a road meet against Penn State on March 1.
