RALEIGH - In the first meeting between the two programs, No. 17 Stanford fell at No. 7 NC State, 27-13, Friday, in James T. Valvano Arena at William Neal Reynolds Coliseum.
Stanford drops to 9-4 overall and 1-3 in the ACC, while NC State moves to 11-1, 5-0 ACC. The Cardinal won just four of the 10 bouts, getting bonus points from redshirt freshman Tyler Knox.
Knox, who is ranked seventh nationally, registered a 9-1 major decision over No. 13 Kai Orine at 133 pounds. The redshirt freshman leads the team with 21 wins this season and improves to 12-1 in duals.

Sixth year Jaden Abas, No. 10 at 149 pounds, got back in the win column with a 5-1 decision over No. 22 Koy Buesgens. He is now 18-7 overall and 4-6 in duals.
No. 13 Hunter Garvin picked up a 6-5 decision over No. 28 Derek Fields at 165 pounds. Garvin scored a takedown with 15 seconds remaining to take the lead, but was called for an illegal hold and Fields was awarded a point and the match was set to go to overtime. After a challenge by Chris Ayres, the Matt Gentry Head Coach, the call was reversed and Garvin was deemed the winner by decision. The redshirt sophomore improves to 15-6 overall and 8-2 in duals.

No. 22 Nick Stemmet completed the scoring for the Cardinal with a 4-0 decision over No. 31 Christian Knop at 197 pounds. The fifth year won his seventh straight match, moving to 17-8 ont he season and 9-4 in duals.
