Men’s Tennis Topples Trojans

No. 13 Stanford earned a 4-2 victory over USC.

LOS ANGELES – No. 13 Stanford men’s tennis continued its winning ways on the road, downing USC, 4-2, at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium. Stanford improved to 4-1 this season with the result.

The Cardinal had to come from behind to win the match, as USC took an early lead in doubles. Despite a victory from Samir Banerjee and Henry von der Schulenburg in the second position, 6-4, the Trojans claimed wins on courts one and three to take a 1-0 advantage in the match.

The momentum changed in singles, beginning with a straight sets win on court six from Alex Razeghi, 6-2, 6-1. The five remaining matches each went to a third set, with von der Schulenburg briefly giving the Cardinal a 2-1 lead after taking his third set, 6-2. The Trojans responded to tie the match at two apiece, but Hudson Rivera and Nico Godsick clinched the match with wins in rapid succession on courts four and five.

Stanford looks to complete a road sweep in Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 1 against UCLA. The first serves are scheduled for 1 p.m.
